Beck's Mill will Open for the 2024 Season on April 6th 

 

2024 SEASON SCHEDULE

The mill is open on Saturday’s from 11:00am - 4:00pm & Sunday’s from 1:00pm - 4:00pm. The last guided tour of the day begins at 3:15pm both days. The admission fee for adults is $5.00 and children age 16 and under are free with a paid adult admission.  

Beck's Mill Clean Up Day - March 23rd

Volunteers needed for our annual clean up day around the mill. Please bring bring gloves, chainsaws, rakes and tarps. The day will begin at 9:00am. For more information on the clean up contact Raymond Lee at 812-883-4009.

Beck's Mill Opening Day / New Volunteer Training - April 6th

Spring Wildflower Nature Hike/Chicken Barbecue April 13th

Hike sponsored by Lawrence County Soil & Water and led by Carroll Ritter (pre registration for hikes required, info and times TBA) BBQ begins at 11 am and sponsored by Mt Carmel, Tyson and Walmart

Join us this season for a blend of artistic activities as you learn the history and myths of Beck's Mill. Monthly from April to October, we'll explore a new site while expressing our hidden talents through creative writing, sketching, painting, music, collage and more. Learn about the history of the Mill, the science of the water source, the botany from natives to Essie's imports, as well as the culture and myths surrounding our local treasure.

Cost is $15 per session, or $75 for the season. (All proceeds benefit the mill, minus the supplies. Dusty does this strictly as a volunteer of the historic Beck’s Mill.)

Fiber Revival at Beck's Mill - May 11th 

This event features the very rare running of both the carding machines!  The Fiber Revival activities will begin at 10:00am. 

The carding machines are dated to 1816 and considered the oldest in the country...only 5 are left to our knowledge & our 2 are the mills originals! The carding machines were restored in 2007-2008 at the Lovett Mill in Tennessee. Many sheep to Shaw demonstrations...sheep shearing, spinning classes, felting classes, dyeing classes, weaving, quilting, hand carding, crochet and knitting. 

Washington County Sheep Producers will be serving food.

216th Birthday of Beck's Mill - August 24th

Featuring The Corydon Dulcimer Society playing at 11:30am, birthday cake provided by Walmart, spinning, blacksmithing and tomahawk throwing. Special adult admission of $2.16

Parking Lot Activities

Blue River Fire Department will serve food (Pulled pork BBQ, Coleslaw, Baked beans and Chips). Craft and flea market vendors will be onsite. Beck’s Mill Moonshine History by Alan Bishop

Oktoberfest / Cornmeal Bake-off Contest - October 26

Oktoberfest, celebrating the Beck German Heritage. Featuring Jason Hardin’s campfire beans, flea & craft vendors. Music & many demonstrators at the mill.

Music all day, spinning, knitting, crocheting, blacksmithing, tomahawk throwing demonstrations.

Parking lot activities:

Featuring Jason Hardin’s campfire beans, Cornmeal bake off drop off at 11 am to 11:45 am. Entry must contain at least 1/2 cup of Becks Mill cornmeal (white or yellow), inc recipe and in a non returnable dish. Prize will be given. Cornmeal can be purchased at yhr mill or Nana’s This n That Shop on the square. Leftovers will be served with the campfire beans. Flea & craft vendors. Beck’s Mill Moonshine History by Alan Bishop
